The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States rose to 1,771 for the week ending May 31, 2013, up 0.5% from last week’s count of 1,762 but 10.6% below the year-ago level of 1,980.

The highest weekly rig count in the United States since 1940 was recorded on December 28, 1981, at 4,530; the lowest was recorded on April 23, 1999, at 488.

The number of rigs in Canada rose 10.7% to 145, some 22.9% above the three-year low of 118.  Despite the climb, rigs are down 7.1% compared to last year’s count of 156.

The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States declined to 1,762 for the week ending May 24, 2013, down 0.4% from last week’s count of 1,769 and 11.1% below the year-ago level of 1,983.

The number of rigs in Canada rose 6.5% to 131, the second consecutive weekly increase.  Despite the uptick, the number is down 17.1% compared to last year’s 158.

The number of rigs in Canada rose 4.2%, halting the eleven-week downslide and rising from the three-year low of 118 recorded last week.  The rig count is at the same level as a year ago.

The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States increased for the second consecutive week, rising 0.3% to 1,769 for the week ending May 10, 2013.  While the number of rigs is up from 1,754 last week, it is still 10.4% below the year-ago level of 1,974.

The number of rigs in Canada fell for the eleventh consecutive week, down 2.5% from 121 to 118, the lowest count since May 7, 2010.  The rig count is also down 1.7% from the year-ago level of 120.

The number of rigs in Canada fell for the tenth consecutive week, declining 0.8% from 122 to 121 and remaining at the lowest count since May 11, 2012.  The rig count is also down 7.6% from the year-ago level of 131.

The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States fell for the second consecutive week, decreasing 0.2% from last week’s count of 1,758 to 1,754 for the week ending April 26, 2013.  The count is also 9.8% below the year-ago level of 1,945.

The number of rigs in Canada continued its downward trend, falling 3.2% from 126 to 122, which is the lowest count since May 11, 2012.  The rig count is also down 9.0% from the year-ago level of 134.

The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States rose 1.9% to 1,771 for the week ending April 12, 2013, up from last week’s 1,738, which was the lowest since March 2011.  The count is still 9.2% below the year-ago level of 1,950.

The number of rigs in Canada fell 24.3%, dropping from 206 to 156 – the lowest count since June 1, 2012 – and were down 4.9% from the year-ago level of 164.

The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States fell 10 rigs to 1,738 for the week ending April 5, 2013, down 0.6% from last week’s count and 12.2% from the year-ago level of 1,979 to the lowest since March 2011.

The highest weekly rig count in the United States since 1940 was recorded on December 28, 1981, at 4,530; the lowest was recorded on April 23, 1999, at 488.

The number of rigs in Canada fell for the sixth consecutive week, dropping 16.3% from 246 to 206, and is now 68.9% below the 2013 high of 662 on February 22.  Despite the decline, the rig count is up 10.2% from the year-ago level of 187.
