The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States remained at last week’s count of 1,777 for the week ending January 24, 2014.  The count is some 1.4% above the year-ago level of 1,753.

The highest weekly rig count in the United States since 1940 was recorded on December 28, 1981, at 4,530; the lowest was recorded on April 23, 1999, at 488.

The number of rigs in Canada increased for the fourth consecutive week, up 4.4% from 565 last week to 590 this week to the highest count since March 1, 2013.  Despite the increase, the count is some 5.0% below the year-ago level of 621.

The highest rig count for Canada was 727 on February 3, 2006; the lowest was 29, recorded on April 24, 1992.

The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States increased for the second consecutive week, up 1.3% from 1,754 to 1,777 for the week ending January 17, 2014.  The count is now some 1.6% above the year-ago level of 1,749.

The number of rigs in Canada jumped for the third consecutive week, climbing up 18.5% from 477 last week to 565 this week and reaching the highest count since March 8, 2013.  Despite the increase, the count is some 6.0% below the year-ago level of 601.

The highest weekly rig count in the United States since 1940 was recorded on December 28, 1981, at 4,530; the lowest was recorded on April 23, 1999, at 488.

The number of rigs in Canada jumped 69.2% from 282 last week to 477 this week, reaching the highest count since March 15, 2013.  Despite the rebound, the count is some 10.2% below the year-ago level of 531.

The number of rigs in Canada rose 7.2% to 282 this week, climbing from a six-month low of 263 last week.  The count is also some 9.3% above the year-ago level of 258.

The number of active oil and natural gas rigs in the United States fell from last week’s four-month high, decreasing 0.8% from 1,782 to 1,768 for the week ending December 20, 2013.  The count is a mere 0.3% below the year-ago level of 1,774.

The number of rigs in Canada also fell, dropping 6.6% from last week’s nine-month high of 426 to 398 this week.  Despite the decrease, the count is some 3.6% above the year-ago level of 384.
