Lead Times Climb Across All Categories

HRC lead times dropped for the week ending December 16 to 4.2 from 3.7 last week.

HDG and CRC lead times also rose – with HDG coming in at 6.4 weeks from a 5-week low of 5.9 in the week prior and CRC rising to 5.8 from a 6-week low of 6.4.

Lead Times Expand for HRC and HDG; CRC Posts Lone Decline

HRC lead times rose again for the week ending December 2 to a three-month high of 3.9 from last week’s 3.5 and 3.1 two weeks ago.

HDG lead times also rose – coming in at a 14-week high of 6.6 weeks from 6.3 in the week prior. CRC lead times posted the lone decrease, falling to 6.0 from last week’s 11-week high of 6.4.

HRC Lead Times Post Largest Decline in 9 Weeks

HRC lead times for the week ending November 18 fell to 3.0 from last week’s level of 3.8 – the largest week-on-week decline in 9 weeks and the shortest lead times in 6 weeks.

CRC lead times also fell – coming in at 6.1 weeks, down from 6.3 in the week prior. HDG lead times posted the lone increase – jumping to a three-month high of 6.5 from 6.1 in the previous week.

HRC lead times for the week ending November 4 jumped to 3.7 from last week’s level of 3.2 – the largest week-on-week increase in 11 weeks and the highest reading in 9 weeks.

HDG lead times came in at a 5-week high of 6.1 weeks from 5.4 in the previous week – the largest increase in 11 weeks. CRC lead times rose to a 9 week of 6.3 – up from 6.0 in the previous week.

Lead Times Mostly Flat – CRC Jumps to Four-Week High

HRC lead times for the week ending November 4 moved down slightly to 3.2 from last week’s levels of 3.3.

HDG lead times came in at 5.4 weeks for the fourth week straight while CRC lead times posted the lone increase rising to 6.0 from 4.9 in the week prior.

Flat Rolled Lead Times Mostly Unchanged; Coated Lead Times Starting to Pick Up

HRC and CRC lead times for the week ending September 30 remained at 2.9 and 5.4 weeks respectively, flat from 13 and 11-week lows in the previous week.

HDG lead times rose to 6.0 weeks from a 17-week low of 5.4 in the week prior.

Steel Market Production Changes – February 24, 2012

Steel Market Production Cuts – ArcelorMittal’s 1.8 mtpy capacity coil plant in Sestao, northern Spain, is expected to continue to be idled during March, due to minimal scrap purchases in the last two weeks.

Steel Market Production Cuts – Moldova Steel Works’ (MMZ), which has been idle for the last two months, should have resumed production in the past few days, but its restart will be delayed for a few more weeks due to scrap procurement issues.

Steel Market Production Changes – February 23, 2012

Steel Market Production Cuts – Luxembourg-based steel producer ArcelorMittal has extended the temporary idling of two blast furnaces at its Florange site in eastern France due to poor demand and slower than expected recovery.

Steel Market Production Increases – Mechel, the Russia-based metal and mining company, has resumed the operations at three out of its four mills in Romania, and production at the remaining plant, Targoviste is due to restart on February 27th.

Steel Market Production Increases – Vallourec SA is nearing completion of its new 500,000 tpy seamless pipe mill in Youngstown, Ohio, with the mill on schedule to restart commercial production this summer as it ramps up to the targeted capacity.

Steel Market Production Increases – Vietnam’s SSE Steel is defying difficult market conditions to bet on the future of the construction sector in Vietnam by adding 350,000 tpy of new rebar and wire rod capacity by the end of 2012.
