Iron Ore Price Increases for Fifth Straight Week

The spot reference price for 62% Fe iron ore cfr North China rose 1.7% to $122.10 for the week ending November 9, 2012, after increasing 0.4% the week before, and is now 37.2% higher than the recent low of $89.00 on 9/7/2012.

The spot price for iron ore averaged $141.84 in 1Q, $139.35 in 2Q, and $112.12 in 3Q; this compares to an average of $167.59 for full-year 2011.

The post-recession low was $59.10 on March 27, 2009, while the high was $190.19 on February 17, 2011.

The spot reference price for 62% Fe iron ore cfr North China rose 0.4% to $120.10 for the week ending November 2, 2012, after increasing 3.7% the week before, and is now 34.9% higher than the recent low of $89.00 on 9/7/2012.

The spot price for iron ore averaged $141.84 in 1Q, $139.35 in 2Q, and $112.12 in 3Q; this compares to an average of $167.59 for full-year 2011.

The post-recession low was $59.10 on March 27, 2009, while the high was $190.19 on February 17, 2011.

Iron Ore Prices Increase Modestly

The spot reference price for 62% Fe iron ore cfr North China was up 0.7% to $115.30 for the week ending October 19, 2012, after increasing 9.9% the week before, and is now 29.6% higher than the recent low of $89.00 on 9/7/2012. Despite opening the week down, falling 1.7% to $112.60/ton, the price rebounded and hovered slightly above $115 for the final three days of the week.

For the first quarter of 2012, the spot price for iron ore averaged $141.84, and for 2Q, $139.35; this compares to an average of $176.90 for 1H 2011 and $167.59 for full-year 2011.

The post-recession low was $59.10 on March 27, 2009, while the high was $190.19 on February 17, 2011.

Iron Ore Prices Increase After Chinese Holiday

The spot reference price for 62% Fe iron ore cfr North China was up 9.9% to $114.50 for the week ending October 12, 2012, after staying at $104.20 for each day of the Chinese Golden Week holiday, and is now 28.7% higher than the recent low of $89.00 on 9/7/2012. Early week momentum faded however, as iron ore prices declined a total of 2.7% after peaking at $117.70/tonne on Wednesday.

For the first quarter of 2012, the spot price for iron ore averaged $141.84, and for 2Q, $139.35; this compares to an average of $176.90 for 1H 2011 and $167.59 for full-year 2011.

The post-recession low was $59.10 on March 27, 2009, while the high was $190.19 on February 17, 2011.

The spot reference price for 62% Fe iron ore cfr North China fell 2.1% to $104.20/tonne for the week ending September 28, 2012 from $106.4 last week. The recent high was $149.4 on 4/13/2012 and the recent low was $89.0 on 9/7/2012.

For the first quarter of 2012, the spot price for iron ore averaged $141.84, and for 2Q, $139.35; this compares to an average of $176.90 for 1H 2011 and $167.59 for full-year 2011.

Iron Ore Prices Increase Again Despite Late Week Drop

The spot reference price for 62% Fe iron ore cfr North China rose 4.7% to $106.40/tonne for the week ending September 21, 2012, despite falling 2.9% from Tuesday’s peak of $109.60. Prior to the last two weeks, iron ore prices declined 23.7% over five weeks of consecutive decreases, to a 34-month low of $89.00/tonne.

For the first quarter of 2012, the iron ore price averaged $141.84, and for 2Q, $139.35; this compares to an average of $176.90 for 1H 2011 and $167.59 for full-year 2011. The post-recession low was $59.10 on March 27, 2009, while the high was $190.19 on February 17, 2011.
